Long-billed Curlew
This was the first Long-billed Curlew that I ever saw. Curlews use their long bill to capture shrimp and crabs that are burrowed deep into tidal mudflats or to catch deeply buried earthworms in grasslands. This bird was very tame and often approached me closely as it wondered the beaches of Fort Desoto Park.

*Yawn*
I watched this Burrowing Owl perch outside of its burrow for some time before it started throwing its head back and yawning. I though an image of the yawn would be quite comical when the action was frozen in time.
Anhinga Plumage Detail
While this Anhinga was preening, it had it's back toward me, and I noticed the amazing plumage detail and symmetry in the wing feathers. I took several images and picked this one because the head was tilted slightly toward me revealing some of the feathers on top of the head.
Great Blue Heron
This Great Blue Heron was perched in a tree top and preening for several minutes. I was looking for a portrait shot in this case and waited for the bird to pause preening and look at me before I took the picture.
