Dr. Greg Forcey was born in rural north-central Pennsylvania in 1978. As a child, he spent many hours outside and quickly became fond of different wildlife species, especially birds. Given his interest with wildlife, he decided to pursue a career in this field and enrolled at
Penn State University in 1996, majoring in wildlife and fisheries science. He graduated from
Penn State University in May of 2000 and completed a master's degree in wildlife and fisheries resources at
West Virginia University in May 2002. In May 2006, he completed his Ph.D. in Zoology at
North Dakota State University. His graduate research involved evaluating different bird survey techniques (M.S.) and studying land use and climate influences on wetland breeding birds in the upper Great Plains (PhD). Currently, Greg is an avian ecologist for
Pandion Systems in
Gainesville, Florida and is heavily focused with working on issues surrounding wind turbine and wildlife interactions. You can view Greg's research publications on at

Greg's primary interest outside of work is photography, with wildlife being his favorite genre. His interest in photography started in 1991 with a Minolta 35mm film SLR camera, and in 1998 he switched to a
Nikon F5 film camera. Today Greg's photography is strictly done with
Nikon digital SLRs and a wide assortment of lenses ranging from 10.5 mm to 600mm. He shoots strictly in RAW mode and processes his images with
Nikon Capture NX and
Adobe Photoshop. All of his digital darkroom work is performed on the
Mac OS X operating system.
In addition to photography, Greg enjoys strength training, karate, bicycling, canoeing, hiking, and going to concerts.
